Are you ready to join the fiesta? National Hispanic Heritage Month has already begun, and it runs until October 15. This annual celebration recognizes the history and culture of the US Latinx and Hispanic communities and marks the contributions and influences of Hispanic Americans and immigrants whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central, and South America. We’re excited to honor the history, cultures, and achievements of the 60 million Hispanic Americans in the US.
There is a myriad of ways to celebrate, from parades, art exhibitions, and concerts to food fairs – and people across the country are commemorating the contributions of the Hispanic communities in American society.
Food is a cultural celebration
A big part of any cultural heritage is the food that’s native to the country. Food is deeply rooted in Hispanic culture, and with Hispanics making up over a quarter of the American population today, Hispanic food is flavoring the US culinary experience. For centuries in Mexico, the kitchen has been the heart of the home.
Here at Grand Hacienda, when we enjoy some enchiladas, made from our abuela’s traditional recipe, we close our eyes. For a moment, we could be standing in her kitchen, listening to the click-clack of the molcajete as she prepares guacamole. When we enjoy our traditional food, we’re tasting our roots, celebrating our culture right then and there. We want to share this with you. No wonder UNESCO has recognized traditional Mexican food internationally as part of the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. After all, it is a world cultural treasure worth preserving!
